Wetherspoon sales top £2bn for first time
Sales at J D Wetherspoon have gone past the £2bn mark.
Sales at the managed pub operator J D Wetherspoon have gone past the £2bn mark for the first time in its trading history.
In its preliminary financial results for the 52 weeks ended 28 July 2024, Wetherspoon posted a revenue of £2,035m, with a profit before tax before separately disclosed items of £73.9m, which is 73.5% up on 2023's £42.6m.
Operating profit before separately disclosed items was £139.5m (£107.1m in 2023).
After separately disclosed items, profit before tax was £60.6m and operating profit £142.6m.
"Sales continue to improve," says Tim Martin, chairman of J D Wetherspoon. "In the last nine weeks, to 29 September 2024, like-for-like sales increased by 4.9%.
"The company continues to be concerned about the possibility of further lockdowns and about the efficacy of the government enquiry into the pandemic, which will not be concluded for several years."
